Convocation FAQs

Many have asked questions about the graduation ceremony, so I am responding those questions to all:

1. What is the difference between the morning and the afternoon convocations?
Morning is only for College of Ed graduates (teacher, Masters and Phds), and afternoon is the campus wide ceremony

2. Do we have to participate in both?
You may if you want to. But if you have to choose between the two, you cannot miss the morning ceremony because that is the one where you will walk on the stage and get your diploma.

3. Can family come?

Sure, convocation is for students and their family members. You have to reserve tickets for your family (look for "convocation tickets" in this site: http://www.ed.uiuc.edu/news/convocation2006.html

4. How much do tickets cost?

Tickets to participate of convocation are free for the student's family and friends, you have to ask for them to the college. (They will contact you about this soon). Lunch tickets cost $7.75, and you can order them in the URL indicated above

5. Do CTER graduates participate in a separate ceremony?
No, the ceremony is the same for all the College of Education students. A member of the CTER staff will be present at the Armory Building, 505 E. Armory Avenue, by 9:00am at the registration table to tell you where to line up so that you sit next to all CTER participating students. At 9.30 you will have a CTER graduate picture taken with CTER staff and faculty, then you will walk to the G. Huff Hall and participate in the College Convocation Ceremony.

6. Do we have to participate in the College Picnic Lunch?
That is up to you. CTER does not make special arrangements for lunch or after the ceremony.

7. Caps and gowns
To reserve caps and gowns go to the convocation 2006 website. I also recommend that you go to the CTER Cohorts menu on the left and look for the graduation pictures. You will find pictures of the ceremony and also a video from previous years.

Feel free to contact me if you have other questions... Have a great day! Norma
